Our art collection
Our art developer is in charge of the region's art collection, which is placed in both healthcare environments and offices around Norrbotten.
At our clinics, health centers, hospitals, public dental care and offices around the county, there are several thousand works of art on display. Our art developer is responsible for this art collection by storing and managing the works from purchase to display. Today, the art collection consists of approximately 10 works that are inventoried and cataloged in a digital database.
When building or renovating regional properties, the one percent rule for public art is applied. This means that one percent of the total budget is allocated for artistic design.
Why is art in healthcare environments important?
Art contributes to better mental health and well-being, encourages reflection on both the past and the present, and creates space for tolerance and diversity. Art in healthcare settings then becomes a way of shaping the living environment and meeting people, both patients and staff, in their everyday lives. It also forms part of our cultural heritage, reflecting people's thoughts, feelings, identities and stories, and contributing to interaction and integration.
