Democracy and participation

The democratic mission of libraries is both about giving people access to knowledge and creating conditions for conversation, education and free opinions. They also work on issues such as promoting reading, digital participation and making society's information accessible to everyone. Public libraries are open and neutral meeting places that people have a high level of trust in.

Together with the libraries in the county, we want to create conditions for all Norrbotten residents to be able to participate, influence and take part in knowledge and culture on equal terms. Therefore, we support public libraries by:

• strengthen libraries' work for equal access to library services throughout Norrbotten
• develop a joint regional media strategic plan for a broad and varied offering
• contribute with development, training and communication support.
