“With the right knowledge, we can provide companies with better service”

Correct knowledge of employers' skills needs means better support from the municipality. Through the collaboration in Kompetensarena Norrbotten, Piteå Municipality wants to both strengthen the business community and create a better Piteå.

Securing the right skills in the right place is a key issue for Piteå Municipality. Through Kompetensarena Norrbotten, they have joined forces with the county's other municipalities to jointly invest in meeting the challenge.

– It is a huge challenge for the entire region. We need to increase immigration and utilize every ounce of expertise we have. No municipality can solve it on its own. Ultimately, it is about people wanting to stay, and companies and the entire region continuing to develop, says Hannah Degerman, business developer, Piteå Municipality.

During the autumn, employers in Piteå and the rest of Norrbotten will be asked to answer a survey that will map skills development needs and future recruitment and training needs. Hannah believes the answers will give the municipality invaluable insights.

– We cannot guess the needs, then the efforts will be wrong. With the right knowledge, we can provide companies with better service. This can involve planning training courses or helping to accept workers who do not speak Swedish. In dialogue with the companies, we create a better business community and a better Piteå, says Hannah.

Answers lead to action

It is of great importance that the survey is answered and Hannah believes that employers in Piteå can expect the municipality to meet the needs that emerge:

– We are not just collecting information – we are going to translate it into actual support. We need answers from all possible employers in Piteå; service companies, trade, industry, service and so on. All are equally important for our survival, for the continued development of Piteå and for the growth of companies.
