County transport plan
The Norrbotten Region is responsible for developing a county plan for the regional transport infrastructure. The plan shows how roads, railways, public transport and other transport systems should be developed and prioritized in the county.
The goal is to create good, accessible and sustainable transportation, adapted to Norrbotten's conditions - for residents, businesses and visitors.
What is a county transportation plan?
The County Transport Plan is a strategic document that:
- points out what measures are needed in the transport system
- prioritizes investments in regional transport infrastructure
- contributes to meeting goals at international, national and regional levels
The plan covers a twelve-year period and is revised every four years to follow societal developments and new needs.
Current plan
The County Transport Plan for Norrbotten has been revised during 2024–2025. A new proposal was approved in December 2025. The next step is for the regional council to adopt the plan in the spring of 2026.
