National and international work

Alone is not always strong and there are many occasions where it pays to share each other's experiences to find ways forward. Openness to the outside world means increased cooperation and collaboration with other regions and countries. Here we also need to see what is happening in other areas and in other places and learn from it.

National and international cooperation is about finding common issues both within Sweden and with regions in other EU countries. Together, we can, among other things, contribute knowledge to decisions at a national or international level so that we in Norrbotten have opportunities to grow and develop even outside the frameworks where we lack direct decision-making rights.

National cooperation

Europaforum Northern Sweden where the four northernmost regions, Norrbotten, Västerbotten, Västernorrland and Jämtland, collaborate in research and business issues. The collaboration also forms the basis for being able to pursue common issues at EU level.

International cooperation

  • The Assembly of European Regions (AER) is a cooperation between European regions. It includes over 250 regions from 32 countries and 14 international organizations. The AER works to strengthen the political role of regions and increase cross-border cooperation between regions.
  • The Conference of Peripheral Maritime Regions (CPMR) is an umbrella organization for international cooperation on Europe's maritime regions. Region Norrbotten is part of the commission responsible for the Baltic Sea.
