Broadband expansion makes it possible to live and work throughout the county
In order for everyone to have the same opportunity to take advantage of digital innovations, the entire county needs to have access to secure internet connectivity, regardless of whether you live in rural areas or larger cities.
An important part of the broadband strategy is therefore that 98 percent of all households and companies in Sweden should have access to broadband of at least 1 Gbit/s by 2025. The government sees this as an important prerequisite for living and working throughout the country, as well as for driving growth and innovative production.
Needs mapping
The Swedish Agency for Economic and Regional Development uses needs assessments to identify where high-speed broadband is lacking and where commercial expansion is not planned within three years, in order to then be able to offer support for expansion. The assessments compile routes and areas where support is needed and are published in a public consultation to ensure that coverage is not already available and to give actors the opportunity to register interest in expanding the network.
