European Regional Development Fund (ERDF)

The European Regional Development Fund program for Upper Norrland 2021-2027 is now complete and approved by the European Commission.

The new programme has been developed in close collaboration with Region Västerbotten and is based on the priorities of Norrbotten and Västerbotten to ensure that future EU funds can be used in an effective and strategic manner and contribute to sustainable regional development. The programme takes into account the three dimensions of sustainability: social, environmental and economic sustainability.

About the European Regional Development Fund

This fund aims to even out differences between regions when it comes to growth and jobs. Places that have geographical difficulties, such as Norrbotten, are favoured. This may be because the area is remote, sparsely populated or mountainous.

The European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) program is the largest and most important for Region Norrbotten. It involves billions of euros from the EU, including through the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF). In this context, Norrbotten and Västerbotten are counted as a single region, Övre Norrland. We are working together on proposals for how the EU money can be of most benefit.

European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) provides support to public and private bodies in all EU regions to reduce economic, social and geographical disparities.

The money from the European Regional Fund will enable projects to develop innovation and entrepreneurship, infrastructure, green investments and broadband.
