Health and well-being throughout life

Life expectancy by municipality and gender, annually
Life expectancy is an overall measure of the health and living conditions of the population. Differences between municipalities and between women and men can show how different conditions affect life expectancy and how developments vary over time.

Parental benefit and VAB, proportion of days taken by women
The withdrawal of parental allowance and compensation for caring for a sick child (VAB) reflects how care responsibilities are divided between women and men. Variations between municipalities show how these patterns differ locally and what norms and living conditions influence families' decisions.

The ill-health rate, by municipality and gender, annually
The ill-health rate describes the time that people of working age are absent from work with compensation from social insurance. The rate sums up days paid for sickness benefit, rehabilitation benefit, as well as sickness compensation and activity compensation. The measure provides an overall picture of sick leave and permanent reduction in work capacity and can vary both between groups and between municipalities.

Residents aged 16–24 who are neither working nor studying, percentage (%)
The proportion of young people neither working nor studying shows how many are outside both education and the labour market. The group can accommodate both temporary intermediate situations and more long-term difficulties, and the development is closely linked to future establishment opportunities.
