The difficult choices – how do we find the right course towards the future?
Jokkmokk Arctic Talks continues to put important development issues for Norrbotten on the national agenda and spread knowledge about the county's conditions and challenges.
The green transition holds not only opportunities and challenges – but also conflicts of interest. What appears as an opportunity to one party may be perceived as a disaster to another. Many difficult choices are required as we navigate the future.
So how do we achieve the greatest possible benefit with the least possible harm? How do we weigh the societal benefit against the individual's rights? The benefit for Sweden against the impact on the local community? The benefit for a company against the interests of its neighbors? What price are we willing to pay for a rapid transformation of industry and society – and when does the price become too high?
We will turn and twist these difficult questions in this year's Jokkmokk Arctic Talks.
Moderator Karin Hübinette leads a conversation with:
Eva Sundin, Head of Department for Environment, Norrbotten County Administrative Board
Karin Lexén, Secretary General, Swedish Society for Nature Conservation
Håkan Jonsson, Chairman of the Sami Parliament
Riikka Aaltonen, independent expert
Fredrik Svartengren, Swedish Energy Agency
Andreas Johansson, Luleå University of Technology
Carl Wangel, Head of governmental relations, SSAB
Jokkmokk Arctic Talks is a joint event between Jokkmokk Municipality, Luleå University of Technology, Sparbanken Nord, Vattenfall and Region Norrbotten.
