European Forum Northern Sweden

Europaforum Northern Sweden is an arena where politicians in the four northernmost counties can discuss and position themselves on important common future issues.

Europaforum Norra Sverige (EFNS) is a political network that brings together Sweden's four northernmost regions, Norrbotten, Västerbotten, Västernorrland and Jämtland, to discuss and analyze the parts of EU policy that affect northern Sweden. The network's primary task is to monitor European issues and work together to ensure that EU legislation, such as various EU strategies, action programs and the EU budget, strengthens the northern regions' power to change. The work involves, among other things, jointly describing and describing the conditions and opportunities that exist in northern Sweden, what the region has to offer the EU and what the region in turn needs in terms of support from the EU.

The goals of the joint work are to, through EFNS:

  • Ensure that the interests of northern Sweden are taken into account when the EU formulates policy.
  • Develop and contribute to good multi-level governance in the EU and in Sweden.
  • Bringing EU policy closer to citizens in northern Sweden.
  • Increase knowledge and awareness of EU policies in political bodies in the four northernmost regions.

Norrbotten, Västerbotten, Västernorrland and Jämtland each appoint three rapporteurs who share the responsibility. A forum is arranged once or twice a year in one of the four northernmost counties.
