PICTA Nord will strengthen the future of ambulance healthcare in Norrbotten
Norrbotten takes the next step to develop it prehospital care, the care provided before a patient arrives at the hospital.
Through the PICTA Nord initiative, new working methods, digital support and strengthened collaboration will improve the conditions for ambulance healthcare. – We create solutions that strengthen security, says Johannes Sundelin (S), chairman of the regional development committee.
The Care provided at the scene of an accident or illness, and during transport to hospital, has a major impact on the outcome for the patient. In Norrbotten, ambulance services handle long transports and often difficult weather conditions. In order to provide equal and safe Healthcare needs to be strengthened with better support. There is a need for various technical solutions, such as video communication with specialists and drones that can provide situational awareness during major incidents.
Collaboration that strengthens healthcare
The plan for the PICTA Nord project is to build an innovation arena where companies, the public sector, citizens and academia have better opportunities to meet and collaborate on ambulance healthcare in northern Sweden.
– PICTA Nord shows what happens when we start from Norrbotten's own conditions and let innovation and societal benefit go hand in hand. Through collaboration, we create solutions that strengthen security here at home – and that can make a difference far beyond our geographical borders, says Johannes Sundelin

Projects includes efforts to strengthen expertise, develop digital support for decision-making, and test technical and organizational solutions that are suitable for a county with large distances.
- Knowledge exchange is important and by being part of PICTA Nord we strengthen the region. We can also share with other organizations in Sweden how we work with prehospital care in Norrbotten, says Anna-Karin Olofsson Niemi, Operations Manager, Ambulance Health Care, Norrbotten Region, to our collaboration partner Lindholmen science park.
