The role and structures of culture in Norrbotten mapped

The Norrbotten Region has commissioned the report Kulturen kliver fram, which describes the cultural ecosystem in the county. The report maps a number of cultural meeting places and analyses their functions, needs and conditions.

The work is based on literature studies, dialogues and site visits in which both public and private actors participated. The Folkets Hus facilities have been included as a central part of the mapping.

The report highlights the importance of culture from several perspectives, including participation, health, local development and access to information. It also describes how meeting places can function both in everyday life and during societal crises.

One of the elements of the report is a proposal for how a digital culture and emergency preparedness network could be designed. The proposal involves connecting cultural sites with digital technology to facilitate collaboration and the dissemination of culture and enable use in crisis situations. The model is a possible development direction but has not been tested or decided by Region Norrbotten.

The report also highlights potential future areas of use, for example in connection with the planning for Kiruna Capital of Culture 2029. It was written by Stina Almkvist and Bengt Grahn and will serve as a knowledge base for continued work within the region.
