Meeting place for writing voices in Norrbotten

Many who write do so alone, especially in a large county like Norrbotten where distances are long. The Literature Resource Center has organized a writer's breakfast with the ambition of establishing a recurring format. Writers' meetings can provide a sense of community, inspiration and create new opportunities for writers.

– There is a great need to meet where participants can exchange experiences, formulate their needs and feel like part of something bigger, says Evalotta Sundling, acting director of the Resource Center for Literature.

The meetings provide space for conversations about the writing process, publishing, and creative time, things that are otherwise rarely discussed.

“When we meet, the feeling of loneliness decreases. Participants gain new perspectives, ideas and the courage to continue,” says Evalotta.

Norrbotten as a writing location

Literary life in Norrbotten is often invisible and meeting places are needed that elevate both the place and the voices that operate here.

– It creates pride, visibility and perhaps also faith in the future, among both established and aspiring authors, says Evalotta Sundling.

The hope is that the meetings will not only provide inspiration here and now, but also contribute to something bigger.

– By bringing together writing people, we also build networks and structures that strengthen literary life in the county in the long term, says Evalotta.

In mid-June, a writers' breakfast was held where, among others, author Linda Jones spoke briefly about her writing and where she is now in the writing process.

Welcome to contribute

The Literature Resource Center wants to continue developing Norrbotten as a place for writing. If you are a literary activist and have thoughts and ideas about how this can be done in a good way, you are most welcome to contact us.

– We invite conversation and collaboration. Together we can create good conditions for both established authors and new writing voices, concludes Evalotta Sundling.
