Fransesca Quartey is the next theater director at Norrbottensteatern

Actor and director Fransesca Quartey will lead Norrbottensteatern in the future. She will take up her position as the new theatre director after the first half of 2026.
- The theater has a unique role in the region, says Quartey in a press release.

Fransesca Quartey has extensive experience in the performing arts, including as theatre director at Västerbottensteatern. She is currently chair of KLYS – the Artistic and Literary Professionals' Cooperation Board. Quartey succeeds Gunilla Röör, who has been director at the theatre since 2020.

– Together with my colleagues, I want to continue developing the artistic activities and create stories that touch, challenge and inspire, says Fransesca Quartey.

“Will continue to thrive”

Norrbottensteatern is a foundation, with Region Norrbotten and Luleå Municipality as principals. 

– When we started the recruitment process to find a successor to Gunilla Röör, it felt like a big challenge, but with Fransesca Quartey at the helm, I am sure that our county theatre will continue to thrive. I am proud and happy that we have succeeded in recruiting a director who has both such broad experience in leadership and artistic knowledge, says Johannes Sundelin (S), chairman of the regional development committee and member of the board of the Norrbottensteatern foundation.
