Filmpool Nord's "Snow Dreams" won the Kristallen: "Feels fantastic"
For 24 days, the Christmas calendar Snödrömmar captivated the Swedish people. Yesterday, it took home the award for Children's Program of the Year at the Kristallen gala.
- It feels fantastic. It has been so incredibly loved and appreciated, so we are just overjoyed, says Sandra Warg, CEO of Filmpool Nord, which co-produced Snödrömmar.
The Christmas calendar, filmed in Kåbdalis and Älvsbyn, is about two Sami sisters and their search for the magical crystal Tjelmetje. Only by solving the riddle can they make snow fall over their family's ski paradise.
- "We felt it was strong, even when we read the first draft of the script. It had all the elements that can create a really good, magical experience," says Sandra Warg.
Snow Dreams broke viewership records. The advent calendar drew an average of 2,6 million viewers every day for 24 days. But it was impossible to know in advance whether it would be a hit or a flop, says Sandra.
“Difficult target group”
- Advent calendars are hard to make. You have to reach a very difficult target group, between 3 and 99 years old. The youngest viewers should like it, but not be scared. The parents and maybe grandparents should be able to see it and absorb it. So there is always a compromise when you make an advent calendar. It is always difficult to know how it will reach.
For many viewers, the Advent calendar was a first encounter with Sami culture, language, spirituality, mythology and the world of imagination.
- Many people have been involved to make sure everything is done right.

Now there was success and victory in Kristallen, the Swedish television award, on Thursday evening.
- I wasn't at the gala myself, we had a bit too much work at home. But we got direct reports from down there. I was actually sitting in the cinema in Luleå watching Kevlarsjäl when messages started coming in, “We've won, Sandra!” And it was really fun.
“Rings on the water”
Filmpool Nord is owned by Region Norrbotten and thirteen of Norrbotten's fourteen municipalities. The success of Snödrömmar has already contributed to regional development in the county, including a boost in bookings for Kåbdalis.
- Our productions can put Norrbotten on the map from several aspects. On the one hand, we spread stories from the north, but we also create interest in the region - for more filming here, for tourism and language and much more. When something gets as much attention as the advent calendar actually got, it gets so many more rings in the water than you can imagine.
