Three sharp proposals for increased housing construction

How are we going to meet the great need for new housing in northern Sweden? Government coordinator Peter Larsson has now submitted three sharp proposals to accelerate housing construction.

He estimates that the proposals could result in 8 new homes in establishment and expansion municipalities in the north.

– It is urgent and we must act now, says Peter Larsson in an interview in Dagens Nyheter.

The proposals in brief:

  • The state foundation Norrlandsfonden will receive 4 billion kronor for housing construction. This will be done through the state budget.
  • New government credit guarantee for so-called establishment and expansion municipalities that better meets their special conditions.
  • State rental loss guarantee, where the state should be able to guarantee a certain portion of rental income or compensate for rental losses and rent loss.

Norrbotten Region Regional Councilor Anders Öberg (S) welcomes the proposals submitted to the government.

– These are well-thought-out proposals that could really make a difference. Now we hope that the proposals will not be delayed and can quickly become a reality. The housing shortage is a threat to the new industrialization in Norrbotten and it will not be solved without government involvement, says Anders Öberg.
