Wanted: artists in small municipalities for art purchases

During 2023, Region Norrbotten acquired several works of art from various municipalities in the county. Now a new call is aimed at artists living and working in municipalities that have not previously been involved.

Professional artists from Arjeplog, Arvidsjaur, Gällivare, Pajala, Överkalix, Övertorneå and Älvsbyn are invited to present their artworks. The works purchased will be included in the regional art collection, inventoried and digitally registered. They will then be placed in care environments or administrative offices.

The call aims to stimulate and highlight Norrbotten's art scene. Another aim is for the region's art purchases to reflect the entire county.

– This is an opportunity for all artists who live in smaller municipalities, or slightly outside the Luleå-Piteå-Boden triangle, to show their artistic creation. It is important as the art collection should reflect the entire county's art and art forms, says Region Norrbotten's art developer Silvia Colombo.

The total budget for purchases is estimated at SEK 70 (price per work: up to SEK 000 excluding VAT). The selection will be made by an expert jury.

It is possible that several works are purchased from one municipality while no purchasing decision is made from another. The geographical perspective is one of several decision criteria. Other criteria are artistic quality and variety, for example of technology.

– The call does not reduce the opportunity for artists in the rest of Norrbotten to be purchased, as it only constitutes part of the annual budget, says Silvia Colombo.

Application

The application should be sent as a single PDF (maximum four A4 pages) and include:

• Presentation of a maximum of 3 works for purchase (maximum three pages). Each image should be described with the following information: title, size, technique, price (excl. VAT), year of manufacture (not older than 3 years) and any edition. Also state whether the work is framed or mounted.
• CV (max. one page).

The works should be available until a decision on a possible purchase has been made. The region is responsible for the shipping costs.

Applications should be sent to the region's art developer Silvia Colombo by March 13, 2024. The application closes at 23.59:XNUMX p.m.
