Opening the door with learning

Region Norrbotten runs Polarbibblo – a digital platform where children can explore their storytelling and language in a creative and enjoyable way. During December, children and curious adults can now take part in their Christmas calendar. Creative and educational activities are hidden behind the 24 digital doors.

The little elves at Polarbibbloredaktionen have really worked hard during November to ensure that children develop their reading and writing skills in a fun way. This could be by writing rhymes, taking part in Christmas book tips from Bibblo-Stina from Piteå, learning to bake lussekatter, doing crafts and playing games.

In previous years, Polarbibblo has arranged calendars with a new section per week during Advent, but now it will be a Christmas calendar with a new section every day.

- "A Christmas calendar is a bit secret and exciting when you can't peek ahead in it," says Ida Johansson Utsi, who works at Polarbibblo. "We have had to develop the site to be able to have that function," she continues.

Learning about national minorities

At Polarbibblo, children can read, listen, submit texts, draw, play games and watch movies, among other things. The platform is available in Finnish, Meänkieli, Sami languages ​​and Swedish. Polarbibblo has a national mission that is about strengthening the national minority languages.

This year, all the gaps are in Swedish, but in some of the gaps you can learn more about national minorities, such as why two candles are lit on Finland's Independence Day and what a Sami ice ring is.

- Right now we are working on the final technical finishing touches, but on December 1st the advent calendar will be on the site and we hope that many children will find it, Ida concludes with a big smile.
