The tourism industry in Norrbotten continues to grow

Four years after the outbreak of the pandemic, the tourism industry in the county is well on its way to recovery. 2022 was a record year, but last year's results were even better. The tourism industry grew the most in Arjeplog.

The Swedish Agency for Economic and Regional Growth's preliminary guest night statistics show an increase in Norrbotten of two percent compared to 2022. This is more than the national average, which was 1 percent.

Arjeplog increased by 12 percent, while Boden and Gällivare follow closely behind with a 10 percent increase.

- This is a pleasing result and a testament to the good work being done in the county's tourism industry. The industry's importance to the county's economy and labor market is growing. As we begin to work on our new tourism strategy, we are starting from a position of strength, says Janus Brandin, Regional Development Director.

The winter season is increasing sharply

From the Swedish Agency for Economic and Regional Growth's data, it can be seen that the tourism industry has increased by nine percent in winter, while in summer it declines slightly.

About a third of visitors come from other countries. Most visitors come from Norway, Germany, Finland, the US and the UK. Some markets are experiencing strong growth: Finland, the US and Italy have all increased by 33-36 percent since 2022.
