Important EU delegation visits Norrbotten

The Swedish presidency is busy with many EU meetings in Norrbotten. Now we welcome the SMOR working group to Norrbotten and Luleå.

Glenn Berggård welcomed the SMOR delegation to Norrbotten.

SMOR is the abbreviation for the name Working Group for Structural Measures and the Outermost Regions. SMOR works with the EU's cohesion policy and must ensure that it takes into account the specific challenges that exist in certain parts of the Union. These may be regions that are remote, island, mountainous or have a difficult climate. SMOR's work has a great impact on those of us who live and work furthest from the centre of the EU. That is why it is an important visit.

The working group was welcomed by regional councilor Glenn Berggård (V) at Luleå City Hall.

– Norrbotten will continue to contribute to the European economy by delivering resources and climate-smart solutions. This requires investments not only in the green and digital transition but also in people and society, said Berggård in his welcome speech.

Going to visit Hybrit

The three-day visit includes visits to Hybrit, ReeMap and the world heritage site Gammelstad Church Village. Then the journey continues to Skellefteå.

During their days in northern Sweden, the participants will meet actors in academia, municipalities and business. The approximately 50 participants will learn about the work of realizing the green transition. The SMOR delegates can see on site the importance of cohesion policy for us who live here – but also what challenges we need continued support to meet.

The Government Offices are hosting the visit, but the program has been prepared in collaboration between the Norrbotten Region, Luleå Municipality, Västerbotten Region, Norsjö Municipality and Skellefteå Municipality.
