Event initiative to strengthen Norrbotten's attractiveness

More and larger events in Norrbotten can increase the sense of pride, contribute to growth and increase the county's attractiveness. These signals have come from associations, cultural organizers, the tourism industry and other businesses. In 2023, Region Norrbotten will therefore carry out a feasibility study to get answers to what a regional event strategy could look like and be realized.

The process leader during the feasibility study is Jenny Hakeberg, a communications consultant with experience from various types of collaborative projects at both the municipal and regional levels.

– From sports, culture and even the tourism industry, there has been a demand for a unifying force that pushes actors in Norrbotten to coordinate, concentrate resources, set priorities and find powerful collaborations in order to attract events to the county in the long term. The feasibility study will provide answers to what the county's actors see ahead, what reasonable goals we should aim for and how we should go about achieving them, she says.

Norrbotten is a county with many prominent athletes. It is home to world-class cultural expressions, natural environments and tourist attractions. In recent years, the world's eyes have been focused on northern Sweden, where the green transition of industry has gained momentum and the need for immigrant, skilled labor is increasing.

The initiative and desire to create really good events in Norrbotten is strong, but to compete nationally and internationally we need to take it to the next level. The feasibility study will give us important answers about how we can utilize everyone's abilities to do so, says Janus Brandin, Regional Development Director at Region Norrbotten.
