"Many of us young people do not know that we belong to an ancient minority, yet we carry the inherited shame. That shame must be turned into pride."

The words of cultural writer Mattias Timanders begin the POPPA report. It compiles the results of in-depth interviews and digital workshops, study visits and Town Hall meetings. Children and adults, politicians and cultural actors have spoken.

It is the Nordic Association Norrbotten and project manager Maja Mella who, on behalf of Region Norrbotten, have implemented the project Cultural gathering activities for Tornedaling, Kväner and Lantalaiset. Such activities are lacking today. For Region Norrbotten, it is important to protect and promote the languages and culture of the national minorities. It is a priority issue to increase knowledge about their history and cultural heritage.

POPPA contains several proposals for initiatives. These include a main museum, a digital information center and research in the area. The feasibility study will now be considered by politicians at both regional and national levels.
