Cultural activities receive government funding
Norrbotten was granted just over 1,3 million SEK in temporary reinforcement when the Swedish Council for the Arts decided to distribute a temporary operating grant for regional activities within the cultural collaboration model.
It is now clear that six regional cultural activities that are part of the cultural collaboration model in Norrbotten will receive the funds:
- Norrbotten Theatre
- Norrland's network for musical theatre and dance
- Oat magazine
- Norrbotten Association Archives
- Filmpool Nord, film cultural activities
- The Handicraft Consultant
The funds will be used for various initiatives during 2022 and early 2023. For example, Norrbotten Association Archives will arrange training for non-profit associations on GDPR, archive care and digital preservation to strengthen the associations' ability to preserve their history by creating archives that can benefit the public in the future.
Havremagasinet will, among other things, develop the historical space regarding content, information and communication to strengthen educational work and cooperation with schools. The funds will also be used to cover costs for extra staff, cancelled performances, storage and adaptation of performances to smaller audience groups at Norrbottensteatern, due to the corona pandemic.
– It is gratifying that Norrbotten is able to take advantage of these government reinforcement funds to support after a long period of challenges due to the pandemic. I am convinced that the efforts that are now made possible will contribute to a faster recovery and continued development of the activities, says Peppe Bergström Hesselbom, Head of Culture for Region Norrbotten.
Background
The Swedish Arts Council decides on the distribution of certain government grants to regional cultural activities with the support of the Ordinance (2010:2012) on the distribution of certain government grants to regional cultural activities. The purpose of the grant is to contribute to achieving the national cultural policy goals and to provide increased opportunities for regional prioritization and variation.
Additional support for the regions within the cultural collaboration model was announced at the beginning of 2022. The announcement stated that the regions could apply for temporary general reinforcement for arts and cultural activities that are co-financed within the cultural collaboration model against the background of needs in four areas:
- Development and transformation
Temporary interventions with the aim of, if necessary, adjusting and strengthening regional operations before restarting. For example, digital initiatives, skills development, adaptation to smaller audience groups, etc. - Loss of income or postponement of regular operations according to basic mission
Special efforts that may involve temporarily increased expenses due to regular activities as assigned having been canceled or postponed. - Cooperation
Business-related temporary initiatives to stimulate and collaborate with the independent professional cultural life and with the organizers. - Other
Business-related temporary initiatives that the business wishes to prioritize in accordance with the established regional cultural plan.
On May 30, the Swedish Arts Council made a decision on the distribution and granted Region Norrbotten SEK 1 to distribute to activities that are part of the cultural collaboration model 328.
