The war in Ukraine leaves its mark on Polarbibblo

The terrible war in Ukraine is on the minds of many children. At Polarbibblo, these thoughts and feelings are expressed as texts and drawings.

Ukrainian flag created in a drawing tool
This flag was created in Polarbibblo's drawing tool by an anonymous user at the end of March. The image is simply called "Ukraine".

Polarbibblo is a safe site for children and their creative expression. Here they can make their voices heard, have a dialogue with adult editors and be published. In the last month, several drawings and texts have been submitted that touch on Ukraine.

"I think this is going to be dangerous for those in Ukraine. We have to help them. What happens if Russia goes to war with us?" writes an anonymous Polarbibblo visitor.

Many children are exposed to information, images and films about the war on their mobile phones and social media. It is easy for children to get caught up in news feeds that they may not understand. Sometimes it can be difficult to know what is happening and what is true. Polarbibblo has therefore compiled a collection of links to news and information about the war adapted for children and young people. The war in Ukraine.

Polarbibblo is available in Meänkieli, Sami languages and Swedish. But children who know Meänkieli and Sami may not have the words needed to talk about the war with their loved ones. Their vocabulary may be related to everyday life and family life. To make things easier, Polarbibblo has produced glossaries with words such as war, peace, soldier, border and flight. The glossaries are available at Meänkieli, Northern Sami and Southern Sami and can be found on the pages for these languages.

Polarbibblo is run by the Norrbotten Regional Library in collaboration with the public libraries in Norrbotten. It is completely free to use the site.
