A couple of days before the Libraries of Norrbotten conference, Jenny Johansson received a phone call from Birgitta Markusson, head of the Regional Library. It was a very happy but surprised recipient who received the message that she was Norrbotten's Aurora scholarship recipient for 2022.

– I love my job and having a library full of kids. If they see that I think it's fun to talk about books and reading with them, then hopefully they will also catch the reading bug, says Jenny Johansson.

Since 2007, library staff in Norrbotten have met every two years for inspiring lectures and discussions about library development. During the conference, the Regional Library awards the Aurora Scholarship to a person who has worked with particular brilliance on developing the library's operations. The award comes with money that can be used for skills development. You can read about it here

– Our scholarship is important. With it, we want to highlight the important work done by library staff around the county. For example, work to promote children's love of reading and encounters with literature and stories like Jenny does, says Birgitta Markusson. She has also developed digital working methods during the corona pandemic, which she has continued with.

Jenny Johansson was unable to be present at the announcement in Boden. However, conference participants were able to meet a happy fellow who expressed her greetings and thanks via a pre-recorded video.

The justification reads:
With a tireless commitment to reading promotion for many years, Jenny is an inspiration and reading engine for children and young people in Piteå. Her work extends far beyond the area of her own local library, reaching into the municipality, to children, students and teachers.

When the corona pandemic hit us, libraries in the country had to adjust and adapt their operations to new and demanding conditions. Jenny did not slow down, but found new ways to awaken children's desire for stories, reading and experiences. Digital book tips became a new approach and have been very appreciated by children and adults. Jenny has since continued to combine physical and digital working methods to reach as many children as possible with her reading-inspiring work.

Jenny's joy of reading and enthusiasm in meeting children are a great inspiration to her colleagues. She is mentioned by colleagues as a book recommendation expert. Jenny Johansson is a worthy recipient of Norrbotten's Aurora scholarship.
