Region Norrbotten co-finances development projects together with several different EU funds. So far this year, Region Norrbotten has co-financed EU projects with approximately SEK 80 million. A new seven-year program period has started and with it new money. All funding programs have carried out their first calls during the autumn. A call means a window when project owners can apply for money within a given area.

– We are now seeing great interest from both new and old project owners who want to work to develop our region now that the new program period starts, says Monica Lejon, Head of Unit for Business and Society at the Department for Regional Development at Region Norrbotten.

The Norrbotten Region has a government grant of approximately SEK 130 million that can be used to co-finance development projects and business investments.

Cohesion policy is the EU's most important tool for creating growth and jobs locally and regionally in Europe. The policy is behind hundreds of thousands of projects in Europe that are run with money from various funds. Countries and regions use this money to finance different programs.

In order for the projects to finally get the green light to start, the Structural Funds Partnership will prioritize which projects will receive EU support from the ESF and ERDF. The next meeting date for the Structural Funds Partnership is December 9.

For Interreg projects, the Interreg Steering Committee decides on co-financing. The next meeting will be held on 22-23 November.
