New report on the need for skills as industry goes green
The new report "The need for skills when industry goes green" should be seen as an in-depth analysis of the industries' needs for vocational education, which Oxford Research previously conducted on behalf of the Norrbotten Region.
The report highlights that the need for education needs to be seen in the light of the need for skills. The central problem, however, lies in the limited availability of labour that can meet the demand arising from the green transition of industry. An important part of realizing the transition work should therefore be about being able to recruit people with the right educational background from other parts of the country or the world. The question of the green industry's skills supply is thereby expanded to become a question of how more people should choose Norrbotten's municipalities as a place to live.
The report also points to a point that no one currently has a straight answer to but that it is important to continue to reflect on. It is about the issue of avoiding cannibalism between the emergence of the green industry, other private businesses and the public sector. The need for skills is great in all sectors and industries, but the analysis indicates that the green industry may have a trump card in terms of potentially higher salaries. How should employers in sectors and industries other than the green industry attract workers? What values do these employers need to point to?
