Cultural means

Cultural funds are the name of the project support that will help strengthen the role and importance of culture in Norrbotten.

Calls for applications

The spring application round is open February 15 – March 15 annually.

The fall application round is open September 15 - October 15 annually.

Good to know

Cultural funds can be applied for by

  • Professional cultural practitioners (F or FA tax form required)
  • Companies operating in the cultural sector (corporate registration number required)
  • Cultural promotion associations (registered associations only)
  • Cultural promotion organizations (organization number required)
  • Municipalities
  • Authorities
  • Universitet

Norrbotten project owners/applicants are given priority over applicants from other regions.

The maximum amount of funding requested is 50 percent of the total project budget. The remaining 50 percent must be financed by other actors from the local, regional or national level.

Remember that your own time spent does not count as co-financing.

The following conditions need to be met in order for us to process your application:

  • The project's activities should be carried out in several municipalities in Norrbotten,
    Alternatively, the applicant must be able to demonstrate the project's purpose for the county at large and/or its significance for national and/or international attractiveness.
  • Funds applied for from Region Norrbotten may be a maximum of 50 percent of the total budget. The remaining 50 percent of the total budget must be financed by other actors from local, regional or national level.
  • The applicant's own time spent may not be counted as co-financing.
  • Only one project at a time is processed, within the category to which the application applies.
  • Region Norrbotten pays out decided funds in advance on the condition that the applicant will be liable for repayment if the decided budget and financing are not maintained according to the decision made.
  • If the total budget and/or financiers change after Region Norrbotten's decision, the applicant must contact the administrators for a new decision, based on the new budget and the new financing plan.

You can apply for cultural funds via the Swedish Agency for Economic and Regional Development's e-service. My application.

  • Decisions are made approximately two months after we receive your application.
  • Decisions cannot be made retrospectively, which means that the project cannot start before a decision has been made.

You submit a final report on the project via the Swedish Agency for Economic and Regional Growth's e-service.  Msubmit application.

Here you can read frequently asked questions and answers regarding our cultural support. You will find general questions, questions about the application process and questions about payment and accounting.

General questions

The Norrbotten Region provides financial support with the aim of giving residents access to a rich cultural life with many cultural expressions. In Regional Development Strategy Norrbotten 2030 and Cultural plan for Norrbotten 2023-2026 The focus of the work is stated.

Yes.

It depends on what type of support you are applying for. See information under each type of support.

An authorized accountant must be hired if the cultural support exceeds SEK 500.

Apply for support

There are several things you need to consider. It is important that you apply for the right form of support and are careful with the content of the application. The application must be submitted in the system we provide. Incomplete applications will not be processed. Before applying, you can read the guidelines and conditions, use these questions and answers and watch our videos about the digital application.

If your business has the right to deduct VAT, VAT should not be included in the budget.  

Based on the scope and needs of the activity/project, seek an amount that is realistic in itself and in relation to other financing.

It depends on what form of organization you have. Contact the Swedish Tax Agency for more information.

Decision, payment and reporting

Decisions are made according to the regional development committee's delegation procedure.

Yes, some preparations may have begun, but support cannot be granted retroactively for projects that have already been completed.

For most forms of support, you will receive a decision within two months of the application deadline. More information can be found under each type of support.

Granted cultural support is paid in advance.

 You must report no later than three months after the project has been completed. You report through the system we provide.

You may be liable for repayment. As long as previously granted projects are not reported, Region Norrbotten will not process any new application for cultural support, which means that the application will be rejected.

Yes. Contact us at the cultural unit.

You should contact the Cultural Unit at Region Norrbotten. A new decision may need to be made based on the project's new circumstances.

Yes. We may require repayment of all or part of the support if: Guideline support culture and or Conditions for cultural support not fulfilled.
