All children's right to a safe upbringing - for a continued safe Norrbotten
On October 17, we will put children's rights on the agenda for the seventh year in a row. This time by bringing together various actors and focusing on promotional and preventive efforts at the societal level with children's rights first.
The right to a safe upbringing permeates the Convention on the Rights of the Child and is expressed in many of its articles. We know that safe upbringing conditions and a good start in life have a positive impact on health and well-being in both the short and long term. When children receive support early in life, the risk of more serious problems later decreases. Safer children, makes for a safer society!
Norrbotten is in many ways a good place to grow up. At the same time, we know that many children in our society are disadvantaged and do not receive the support they need. We also know that there are structural – and increasing – inequalities in children's upbringing. Background, socio-economic status, place of residence, gender and much more affect children's upbringing – even in Norrbotten.
In Sweden and in our county, major changes are taking place that affect children's lives now and in the future, but where children do not always have an obvious place. Industrial investments, societal transformation, concerns about crises and crime. How do we ensure children's rights in all this? How do we ensure that a growing Norrbotten develops into as safe a place as possible for all children? How can we, with the Convention on the Rights of the Child as a basis, cooperate to give all children in Norrbotten the best possible conditions? These are some of the issues that will be addressed during the day.
